Who we are

Arete was conceived by two chefs and friends, George Colebrook and Neil Paterson, who met while cooking together at Restaurant Barra in Berlin. Finding common ground in their passion for the best ingredients and classic culinary techniques, they began to cook together outside of restaurants for private clients, and so Arete was born.

Drawing inspiration from their diverse culinary backgrounds, George, with a background in French and theatre, honed his skills in Parisian kitchens such as Yard restaurant and Jones, before establishing himself in London as Sous Chef at Bright. Neil’s culinary journey began at Michelin starred Boath House in north east Scotland before moving to Berlin and co-founding Barra which quickly garnered notable recognition and accolades.

Now back in Edinburgh and London respectively, Neil and George bring their collective expertise to their newest venture under the banner of Arete.
